  • 94 3100 in a 96 car. what needs changed

I picked up a 94 Grand Prix for parts. I would like to put the engine in my 96 Grand Prix just to get it on the road again. What sensors need to be changed for obd2?

Only one you need to change to my knowledge is the temp sensor, and you need to remove and plug the sensor on the back head that was use for temp, and use the fuel injection harness to get the right plug for the temp sensor. The other sensors ON the motor are the two crank sensors, and the Cam sensor which don't change and if you use the rest of the bolt on stuff from your 96 you should be fine.

you'll need to swap knock sensors as well. the 95 and earlier used not only a different connector, but also a different resistance.

EGR/UIM is different as well. Need to use the 1996 UIM and EGR.

Ok so I had to switch the wiring harness on the engine to the one that come off my 96. I have to questions now.

Ok so far Ive changed the temp sensor, knock sensor, changed the harness under the UIM, and switched back to the 96 UIM and EGR off the old engine.

What is this plug on my 96 harness and how should it be routed. Its on the throttle body side of the intake.

Is this an old temp sensor on the back of the head?

Back head temp sensor can be ignored since the 96 is a 3pin sensor at the thermostat.

The purple insulator plug you have should come out from under the UIM near the PCV valve area and wrap around the front of the engine and plug into the harness by the PS pump, The plug connects the Cam sensor to the engine bay harness.
