The Fiero could have put a butt-whooping on a corvette with an iron block just as easy. The simple answer is that the 50 pounds of weight savings doesn't justify the price for a street car. You can build just as much power with a stock 3100 block. Aside from the slight weight benefit, the aluminum block doesn't gain you anything.

its not justifying it for the coolness factor, i just cant justify it for my street driven car thats going to have a bit more performance. if i had the $$$ and was going to go with a completly nuts engine build up, id be all over it, or at least the top end. i would rather use an iron block. in a fwd car, the weight savings isnt a good thing for drag racing, as you lose the weight on the front end, and you just spin off the line.
after all, drag racing with a fwd car isnt about getting traction, its about minimizing wheelspin.
