I'm trying to figure out what models had the 60 dg v6 3.4L installed at the factory. Mine was swapped by GM from the 2.8L, and is carbureted, not TBI. This is where I'm having trouble, everything I find is TBI stuff. I'm attempting to find everything I can right now, and this is throwing up a seroius roadblocks on ebay and jegs. Can I use the TBI lower end parts on my carb engine?

Lower end parts, I would assume so. The only parts I can think of that would be different would be the heads, intake and fuel delivery system. Possibly the cam/lifters too (flat tappet vs roller) but I doubt it. This is only speculation on my part, though. Hopefully betterthanyou will chime in.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

TBI and Carb engines are very similar. The only difference in the block was carb engines had a mechanical fuel pump boss and small main journals. TBI engines had large journals and no pump boss on the block. The iron heads are all the same except the LO heads had smaller valve but are otherwise the same and upgradeable to the large valves. The valvetrain is identical on both.
The ONLY application where a 3.4L was used in a RWD configuration was in the 93 to 95 F-Body Cars. They were all SFI and were ALL iron head. If you come across a 3.4L in anything else but an F-Body then it is a lie or a swap.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

So I'm looking around at parts for a 1994 camaro with a v6 on jegs right now, but the don't have any specific engine sizes or displacements listed beyond v6 or v8. There was only one v6 available in these right? Also, is it true that you can use the timing gears from a chevy 350 on the 3.4?Last edited by warmonger88; 09-17-2012, 07:02 PM.

Yes there was only the 3.4L V6 in that year. I doubt 350 gears will work although I have never tried to fit them on the cam or crank. It really does not matter because you still have to use the 60 Degree V6 chain. I am using the COMP set and it is holding up great.

Maybe he is thinking of the 4.3 since it's a 350 missing 2 cylinders.

I heard it from my boss, just wanted to confirm if it would work or not. Right now I'm just doing a tune up and some repairs on the truck. I am headed out to my local junkyard within a week or so, so I'm just trying to pin down what I can snag parts from and what vehicle to use on parts sites for my engine. I will be looking for a complete or mostly complete engine on craigslist and at the junkyards soon to rebuild and improve on, as I plan to stick with the same motor in my s-10. It has all the horses I need for a daily/ 4 wheeler. Would you guys have any suggestions for aftermarket parts or performance upgrades? I found a few things on jegs and summit, but not a lot. I should go take some pics of my engine compartment so you guys can see what I'm working with.

COMP Cams sells their Magnum Roller Tip Rockers for under $150 they are a hell of a deal. If your doing an engine build I suggest one of their camshaft K kits. Everything you need is in one box for a full cam upgrade. Fiero Valve covers are nice for stopping pesky oil leaks.

My S-10 is an 84' that was converted to 3.4 in mid 90's. I was looking at comp cams kits last week and was wondering if they were any good. I have been looking through summit at roller rockers recently too. Are the fiero valve covers taller or shorter than stock? I was hoping to come across some dress up parts for the 3.4, but so far have been skunked. I have a feeling I'm going to have to do some custom paint work anyway, so it's not too big of a deal.
