  • Oil pan fitment?

Will the oil pan from an 82'-86' S10/Camaro engine bolt up to an 89' Camaro 2.8? Would it require a change in oil pick-up? The engine will not be going into a Camaro...it will be in a little T-Bucket, with no frame/crossmember clearance issues.

Yes it will bolt up. Always check the pickup clearance to the bottom of the pan. 4WD trucks have a much deeper pan and different pickup. Always use a 3.1L or 3.4L pump with 3/4" pickup and iron body. Do not use the aluminum body 2.8L pump with the small 5/8" pickup tube.

Isn't the front of the older pans different?

I seem to remember there being an extra bolt or 2 that ran into the timing cover.. i was trying to pull a 2.8 cover at the JY and found that a few years ago.

Yes it requires the use of an earlier cover but it will bolt up. If you need a reverse rotation cover then use an 86 S-10 cover.

The later pans had a better gasket and are less prone to leaks. Use an 87 or later pan and cover if you can.

Hey I'm doing a very similar swap into a track roadster. Maybe we should swap emails and exchange some ideas?
