  • EGR swap issues-problems

    I swapped the upper/lower intake from a 99 to a 2000+.

    This link says this:

" In 2000, GM changed the EGR mount to verticle, but the electrical connector is the same. Thats good news for 96-99 owners because you can just use the newer EGR without any adapters. These are the best upper intakes to use."

My first 2000+ EGR that I got on Ebay was not working properly, and caused the car's tranny to act funny (no codes).

So I went to the junkyard, got another one, it caused the computer to throw a code (P405?) and then I exchanged it for another one, and that one caused the same thing.

I guess my question is: I wanted to know for the folks that have done this, have you had success with this EGR swap? No codes, smooth ride, no problems? I wanted to know before I ordered a brand new one (post 2000+) or put an older upper on it so I can use my original pre 2000 EGR again.

And I may break out my voltmeter first and test the circuits, but this is getting irritating.

    Thanks.

Well, I just did the test that was presented here:

I only had a safety pin to pierce the "EGR Pintle Position Sensor" wire, but I believe the issue is with the junkyard EGRs and not my car. Three bad, used EGRs in a row? I thought these things didn't fail often. I hope my computer is not shorting them out.

I'll order a new one and see what happens.

Damn, those aren't cheap either. I hope it isn't the computer as well at this point but it is strange to have so many bad EGRs.
