is it worth it or can you even do it, bore .030-.050 over on a 3.4? ive been looking for answers on different sites and google, and didnt really find anything very solid. im about to send my 3.4 block to the machine shop to get hooked up and i thought to myself...self, lets see if we can do it bigger..lol the guy at the shop kinda justs luaghs at me becuz i wana biuld a v6, but thats how most people are. anyways let me know if theres any gains for doing this or not

btw i have a 93 2.8 2wd 5speed reg cab, and im biulding a 95 camaro's 3.4 to swap in my truck with using the 4.3 tbi system.

You can over bore it. Ask your machinist if he can UT the cylinder walls. If you know the thickness you can safely over bore it and not get into any trouble. If there is no way of knowing the thickness of the walls then I would not bore it more than .040 over.

Its not really a mod. More of a way to extend the life of the motor. It will help un shroud the valves a bit and give you a small displacement increase. I would maybe give it a estimate of 5hp.

not to shabby, i guess with all the other little stuff to increas hp, that will just add to it.. im gettin the comp cam 260 and the 1.6 rockers with the springs to go with plus the bored out intake and 4.3 tbi. what eles can i do to get a few more ponies?
im having a problem finding a machine shop that will bore out the intake tho, they wana charge we $185 USD to do it, and thats just crazy. i know you (betterthanyou) sell them but 375 is a little high for also, so im just guna try and do it at school with the drill press.

              Drill press wont work well.

The reason I charge what I do is because it is a full bolt on with all the kinks worked out. I also fully clean the cores so they are like new. I machine them perfectly square to the top deck of the intake and perfectly centered on a mill. Plus I clean and blend the bores into the plenum. I drill the vacuum port holes for the throttle body in a fixture and weld on the throttle cable bracket so there is no guess work. If you had to purchase all the cores and pay for machining, welding and soda blasting it would cost you much more than what I charge.

I am pretty picky about my cores so as long as you removed the intake with care and did not gouge up the machined surfaces and you got a TB with the new style TPS and a tight throttle shaft then I would take them and I would give you $75 off the price to make it and even $300CDN. I already have a couple complete sets so as long as I had payment and confirmation your stuff was being shipped to me then I would send a set out right away. Also you would have to pay shipping for the cores which would run between $20 to $30 depending where you are in the US.

To take the plug out just remove the clamp and then pull and twist up with some big vice grips and it will pop right out. Also note that the distributor sits at a slight angle. You will notice it if you look at the back of the block you can see the cast in passage the distributor and oil pump drive sits in leans to the passenger side at the top.
