  • new engine for my fiero

    alright i bought a 86 2m6 fiero with a 2.8 v6.
when i bought it the engine was blown up so i have to buy a new one. I was wondering what would be the cheapest engine to install in place of the 2.8. I am on a pretty tight budget and i figured that you guys might be able to help me out.

Put in 3400. It wont be as dirt cheep as a 2.8L but you can find a used one with almost no miles on it so you wont have to worry about it. Plus it will make that Fiero just fly

Then don't plan on finding a 3.4 DOHC. But if by some miracle you do, i wouldn't pass it up

Hmmm. I would. 3.4L are really cool engines I agree but for reliability and space savings I would stick with a 3400. No to mention the support you will get with a 3400. And how easily you will come across a low mile 3400

I know where one is at! Just sittin' out there all by it's lonesome. But it probably needs a rebuild.

So 3,000$ later you have a good motor. Wait, you can buy an entire Z34 for 3k. lol

The 3.4 can fit in the fiero, a bunch of guys have done it. And they are reliable IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM.

3 Grand? Are you sure? I really thought I could do it for about $600. Maybe i am stupid.

The DOHC is perfect in the fiero. The alt isn't an issue anymore cause its a clear shot to get to. Sure, its gonna be harder to change the timing belt when thats needed but the benefit is power output plus the 7000 RPM stock redline gives the car the sound it deserves. The 3400 is also a good option and would be easier to deal with but I wouldn't turn my nose up at the DOHC. Reliability really isn't a problem if you know what to do with it.

And you can rebuild a DOHC for less than a grand if you want, depending on what NEW parts you really want. pistons, rings, seals, bearings are the essentials and anything after that shouldn't be necessary. Lifters, springs being on the 2nd tier.

Anyway, the 3400 is gonna be a cheaper option most likely but it really all depends on what power you are looking for and what price range you wanna spend initially and then total.
