  • 3100 SFI on buick Century how to get balancer off?

    Hello,

I have a 3100 in my buick. Space is tight and I'm trying to figure out how I can get the balancer off. I need to check the timing chain but it looks like it's not going to be easy. I have a balancer removal tool but the piece that you push in against the hub is too long is there a specialty tool for this?

    Thanks

You might want to pull the passenger side tire and splash guards and see if there is enough room to get at it from there. That's how I do them with the engine in the car. If that's how you are going about this, ignore this post.

Oh no, thank you verymuch! Actually I just found out about it like 5 seconds ago and took it off. I had no idea you could do that. Never thought to look there. Then again I'm used to working on small blocks with everything you need in the front. Thanks a lot though!

I'm guess it's not possible to change the came with the engine in the car though egh?

That one would be probably almost impossible because of a frame rail right there (I'm assuming, since it should be in a common spot on all of the modern FWD GM cars). You could pull the subframe(s) and drop the engine enough to do it, I imagine, but the work involved in will be enough that you may as well just pull the engine to do it.
