  • Can anyone identify a Displacement on Demand Block

I supposedly bought an 3.9L LZG engine with Displacement on demand, however I can't seem to figure out where the actuators are on the block. Does anyone know?

    How can I verify it?

Also for that matter where are the knock sensors on the 3.9L's?

    Thanks

I don't know first-hand but according to the wiki
"A solenoid control valve assembly integrated into the engine valley cover contains solenoid valves that provide a pressurized oil signal to specially designed hydraulic roller lifters provided by Eaton Corp. and Delphi. These lifters disable and re-enable exhaust and intake valve operation to deactivate and reactivate engine cylinders."

For the adventurous and those that are backyard mechanics who have nothing but time you might like this. Most have plenty of frustrating moments and the process usually takes significantly longer then what anyone could imagine. The end result of this conversion is completely up to you." - Jon McCullough of BMCautos.com

IIRC, the DoD motors have wires coming out of the valve covers?

        IIRC??

It looks like it is a module under the upper intake manifold.

If you search for GM High Value v6 you can see the LZ8 through LZG engines had various combinations of flex fuel and displacement on demand.

Also the Impala was the only car with it.
