  • oil filter location different on 3400???

I am doing an engine swap on an 03 Impala. It had a blown 3400 sfi in it and I am replacing it with a lower mileage 3400 sfi. Well I am getting close to being done with the swap and i went to put my a/c compressor back on but it will not fit because it it hitting the oil filter. What the deal? Did they put oil filters in different locations on the 3400 block. What can I do to make this work? I want to use my a/c compressor. Any help is appreciated.

Use the oil filter adapter that was on your old engine.

Should the hole in the block for the oil filter be at the same spot on all of the 3400 block? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am not with the engine

Yes, they are all in the same location. Not sure if its even possible, but maybe you have the AC bracket on wrong?

I just looked at it again on my lunch break. I think I was just tired last night. It looks to be in the same place from engine to engine. I will try it again later and report back.

just to follow up on this, the a/c compressor is mounted. I forgot that the upper bolts share the engine mount bracket, so that is why things were not lining up for me
