  • silhouette head gasket - remove engine mount strut

    Hi

I have a 2000 olds silhouette in need of a new head gasket. I am trying to remove the engine mount strut. This is the strut wrapped around the exhaust manifold. So I have found 2 bolts upper and lower on the strut and just remove the AC compressor bolts there are three and I thought I was good to go. But it still seams to be holding on but I just don't know on what. Do I need to remove the water pump?

    Any help will be appreciated.

There is a head bolt/stud with a smooth shoulder that it slides down onto. Pull it strait up while twisting some and it should come off. The water pump does not need to come off.

Thanks for the tip. This shoulder bolt is also a bolt for the head right?

Yes, it is one of the head bolts and requires a deep socket to remove because of the shoulder (hex on bottom, shoulder on top).

I put some buster on it and left it overnight and this morning twisted several times and it finally came off.
          Boy that was tough.

          Thanks again.
