3400 cam swap in a 3100

  • 3400 cam swap in a 3100

    Not so long ago i swapped the top end parts from a 1999 3400 engine Lumina onto my 1997 3100 Monte. Idea was to gain some MPG and possibly some performance. Upper and lower intake mainofolds, heads, and the larger throttle body were used as well as a 60deg.v6 EGR deleted MEC.
    Now i'm hearing that i should have also installed the 3400's cam to complete the upgrade. I'm told i left a lot of horse power out of the swap by not doing this cam swap.
    Any truth here?

    I'm pretty sure stock for stock 3400 and 3100 cams are identical. Now if that 99 3400 had an aftermarket cam...

      3100, 3400 and 3500 cams are identical, spec-wise.
      1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

        But absolutely nothing like a DOHC cam, which is what this section of the board is for

                No one told me this from this forum. Was watching you tube videos with titles like 3100 gm 3400 gm ect....
