Hi everyone!
I've been working on this 84 2.8L jeep for a little while now. I getting kind of puzzled with a few of the problems its having. The biggest problem is the carb. Its got small vacuum leaks along the gasket that seperates the upper and lower part of the body. Also a couple of small leaks at the base of the carb. I also checked the vacuum hoses with carb cleaner. They were fine. I'm showing about 9" of manifold vacuum. That seems pretty low. especially when the idle is stuck at about 1800 rpms. Cant seem to make the idle adjustment screw move. The ignition timing is dead on at 18 degrees btdc but hard to tell for sure with the idle that high. Could the low manifold vacuum be totally the carbs fault? or should I be looking for some additional problems? Intake manifold leak? Timing chain skipped a tooth? What carb would be a suitable replacement? Any help would be welcome!
