  • Parts compatibility list

Hi guys, im new here but not necessarily to these engines. Over the years Ive had plenty of cars with 2.8's , 3.1's and now i have a 95 camaro with the 3.4. I have an engine that was pulled from my old low mileage (under 100k) pontiac 6000 equipped with the 3.1 v-6 that i have just lying around.

My question is, what parts from this engine are interchangeable with my 3.4? I know the EGR valves are the same but is there a full list somewhere? Im doing my best to fix up my camaro n would like to save some green by just picking the spare engine clean if i can.

Any help would be great. Thanks guys

Did the 3.1 in the 6000s have aluminum heads? I think so, in which case basically nothing is compatible.

yeah, sorry theres nothing much you can use on it, misc. bolts and the EGR if indeed it is the same. 3100-3500 sfi motors can have the top ends swapped. tear it down for scrap aluminium or sell it as hole.

Well the egr was the same so no sensors, ignition pieces or other bolt ons attached to the engine? And i hear alot about this top end swap......would it be worth saving the heads?

no it wont, those 3.1MFPI heads arnt good for much, maybe port work practice? lol, some sensors might work, save the knock, and IAC, oil pressure and water temp sensor.

The top swap has its own page..somewhere around here, it applys to a FWD application, but its all fairly straight forward. you'd have to ask some RWD guys about it if your serious. or search around alot. all the information is here.

yep, its fun to tear down and learn things too, if you strip the heads and pull the pistons you'll get more for the aluminum FYI
