I have recently discovered that my cam broke in my 1995 3100 L82. I am about to purchase an LG8 3100. (2000+). My question is as long as I have my original engine, as well as that engine I should be fine shouldn't I? granted my car is OBD1 but that's all computer stuff, I just need to make sure this bad boy will work!

You will run into issues with the EGR, but that is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. But, I think I have mentioned this before, look over the 3400 swap guide (http://www.3x00swap.com/index.php?page=downloads), as it will cover any questions you may have.-Brad-

why not LA1? (3400) its bolt up and plug and play, may have to swap timing covers but you may have to do that anyway. helpful hint, the old school 3.1 mpfi egr (same as your 95 3100 egr) can be made to work on certain 3x00 manifolds...1994 Cavalier Z24, 5 speed swap, 3500 LX9 (summer ride)

I would love a L67 but I can't find good prices with as low of miles as I have found. 300.00 for 75K is killer, plus the car needs to be back on the road again. Got a question for you guys, I have put a little extra thought into things, I went online to northernautoparts and they sell engine kits. They have a complete 3.1 M code kit that includes, Chevy 3.1M 1994-1996
Master Kit Includes:
Stock style Camshaft
Stock style Lifters
Stock style Timing set
Stock style Pistons
Stock style Piston Rings
Stock style Rod Bearings
Stock style Main Bearings
Stock style Cam Bearings
Stock style Oil Pump

This kit costs: $678.00. They also sell a cam kit which includes the cam, lifters, and timing set for $274.99. Should I go this route or should I still just buy another engine? I need some advice here, I mean that Master Kit pretty mich seems to rebuild the engine, i however don't need an oil pump now, because I just bought that new melling oil pump. just swap in any 3100 sfi or 3400 sfi and be done with it, if you have the stock motor for swap parts you'll be fine, you might spend 4 hours swapping parts (this includes getting gaskets and beer and pizza) and you can throw any wrecker motor in. from 95-2005 your only worries are upper and lower intake manifolds, i'll assume its got a thread in and quick clip heater core line for the lower intake, so you can get the 14x1.5mm tap (i think it is) and thread the newer intake and go to town, change the fuel injector harness from your motor to the new one, and heck, just leave the EGR unpluged till you get a swap bracket
if not it will just cause a harmless check engine light and better fuel economy. worst case senario on the motor swaps you'll have to swap the timing cover which should take 20 minutes.
You can rebuild the motor but its not cost effective as these motors are abundant. kinda why all of us guys are here.

Hey Bob, I had a question though, I know we've pretty much decided that a 3.1/3.4 is the easiest to do. BUT...a local guy is selling a low mileage 3.8 super cheap. it's just the naturally aspirated L36 engine. I know some older 3.8's can use the 4t60...can I use that? Because as cheap as this engine is, I could just buy a harness and ecm too. Local yard has an abundance of these. I mean my ONLY issue is that I just bought motor mounts and transmission mount for my 3.1 :/ I just wondered if this was an option.
