And really, if you just count the dimples, you can see that its 7+1 (8x) versus 6+1 (7x).

      damn you GM!

That's why i said to double check though.. it would have been nice of them to do it that way.

I'll agree with you there, it sure would have been nice for GM to do something like that.

On a side note, I love the functionality of AutoCAD 2011 to be able to underlay a PDF, and fade it out some. Makes it easy to do comparisons like this.

Today I got the MS2Extra code loaded onto the processor. I also built the Cam Position Sensor input circuit in the prototype area on the MS. I'll put up some pictures here in a minute. Before I load the LX9 code, I need to get the engine running on the MS2extra code using GM DIS first. None of the settings are saved when going from MS2 2.890 code using Megatune to MS2 Extra code with TunerStudio. I'm pretty sure I've got Tunerstudio setup correctly, but I won't know for sure until I get out there and plug the MS in. Then I'll remove the ICM and coils, and install the stock LX9 coil near plug ignition. Then I have to wire in the cam position sensor and of course the LX9 crank position sensor.

On the subject of LX9 CNP ignition, Can somebody help me with the wiring?

More specifically, PinD. What input is it looking for? I'm sure F is 12V with a 15A fuse, E is ground, and A B and C come from the MS.

So, list of things to do:

Test MS2 Extra code with tuner studio and get the car running.
Remove megasquirt from car and complete modifications for CNP.
Wire in stock LX9 ignition, cam position sensor, and crank position sensor
          Pray

The lead thats sitting there not being used runs to JS10 for input to the processor. I'll run it after I test the DIS.

              Crank Position Sensor.

For wiring simplicity sake, can I use a 3.1 CPS to read the reluctor on a 3500? Same question for a Cam position sensor. I'm using the 3.1 engine harness and I don't want to run new wires for those sensors.

Saar answered this one for me and said yea.

I got the engine running on the new code with DIS. So now to finish the board modifications and remove the DIS and install the CPS CMPS and CNP ignition!

How strong are CNP coils vs DIS coils found on our cars already? This seems like a pretty cool project

I can't say that I know the advantage if there is any. I'm really just doing this to give the megasquirt a purpose in the 60*v6 community. Once it has the ability to read the cam position sensor and stock LX9 reluctor, it has the ability to do just about everything a MS3 is capable of doing. http://www.ms3efi.com/product.html That and it's a lot of fun!

It might do it but you'll get a MUCH better signal using the 3500's CPS. Plus you won't have to make spacers and check the gap since the old CPS is longer.

the 3.1 harness doesn't have anything for the cam sensor so you are on your own there...

Yep, I've already started wiring in the 3500 CPS and CMS. I figure I might as well use them.

To bring this thread up to speed. I finished the install and went to start testing. When I tried to turn the motor over the battery died. I had a short somewhere and spend a couple of days tracking it down only to find out it was the starter solenoid. So, after I get a new starter, I'll get back to this.

                              It fired!

It's running perfectly. It's reading the crank sensor perfectly even at higher RPMs. The direct drive coils are working great. I'll get pics and a video later!
