  • IAC Valve going out HELP PLEASE

As I see it there are two choices.
    1. Buy a new one at shucks for $75 or GMPD for $50
    2. Or go to the wrecking yard and find one.

My question is do 3400's and 00+ 3100 have the same IAC's as my 96 3100? And if they are not the same will they work?
If so I'd just pick up a 56mm tb for what ever they cost and slap it on.

    EDIT: just for general information
    IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE
    Part number 17112350

    Dealer $104.49
    GMpartsdirect $52.25
    Shucks ~$70

You should not have an IAC valve problem on a 1996. But then again parts are sometime defective. But I would do some more diagnostic work to be sure it is the IAC.
    1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
    1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper
    Because... I am, CANADIAN

Why shouldn't I have a IAC valve problem on a 96? It's got 156k miles on it. And everything else seems to be falling appart.

I know it was the IAC valve. Sometimes I would Idle really high (like 2krpm) and only get higher (like 3k) till i turned if off. Then started it up again, and sometimes it would calm down some. Cleaned it once, and it fixed the problem for a while. Tried Cleaning it again, and lasted a bit longer.

I got one off a 98 Malibu with 25,xxx miles on it, and now it Idles like it should.
Couldn't find a 56mm TB, so just repalced this one, good enough for me

Well, Fricken. It's doing it again. Any one have any ideas?
The next thing I try is put the stock computer back in, maybe that will help.

look for a vacuume leak. it sound more like a vacuume leak than anything. the aic will try to make up for the leak (thats bascily how a fuel injected motor idles, by controlling a vacuume leak) but it can only close so much. if it goes out of range, it will fluctuate the idle.

            Ok, that makes sense.

For a few day's there has been a rattle at 2100rpm, I was able to look under the car today and found something that looked like it held a vacuume line inplace.
Also on the back of the transmission, there appers to be a place for a vacuume line.

I'm gonna take it back to the place that rebuild the transmission tomorrow morning, and hope they fix it then.

            Thanks!

well, find were the hissing noise is comming from and you will find the leak. if its a brokewn vacuume line or one that has pulled off, its a simple fix.

the part of the tranny were the vacuume line hooks to is called the vacuume modulator. if its not hooked up, it can cause issues with the tranny. my guess is the vacuume line fell off and is hanging somewere in the engine bay close to the tranny.
