okay so heres where im at so far. after months of searching for a 3500 with the supposid "forged" (steel) crank, I finally got this beast. i orderd it tuesday and it arrived friday from wat the F up north... so from what im told, its from a 2006 Malibu, 38,000kms. I have verified the 7484 stamping on the crank.
The plan here is simple. Cam it. I know what i want and we're working on hammering out the specs. When fitting my home made 3400 mount on the 3500, to see how i could modify it to make it work, i noticed how different the LX9 block is compared to the LA1. looks are very similar but most bolt holes are moved (just enough to screw ya) I spent tonight pulling my 3400 from the Z24, and mocking up and modding my existing mounts to work on the LX9. another problem i ran into is the drive axle half shaft. where the hanger bearing bolts to the block. Their higher up then on the LA1. sure i can make the holes bigger , and have the top hole barely doing anything, OR... the idea hit me on my drive home and yes, it will work perfectly. ill show you and explane when it happends. In the mean time, heres the beginning. Enjoy!

Ontario, CA... Hummmm... You might should swap in these B4 the motor mounting takes place...assuming the metric sizes match your block. Why tempt providence...in glacially cold weather, eh?

While you are at it...replacing this cam cover gasket makes sense also since your central performance upgrade idea involves the camshaft upgrade:
