  • Does anyone offer basic bottem end builds?

I know Milzy offers a built race block, but that's a tad excessive for my application. Am I better off going to a junk yard and getting a low mileage LA1 block?

You can always contact a local engine shop and see what they offer. Theye most likely won't know much about these engines but they will assemble a short block for you.

Milzys race block is a tad overboard from the listing but that dosnt mean he would not do anything less than it.

Shop locally. Anyone that knows pushrod domestic engines should know how to properly build a stout block. If they cannot, then they need to go push a broom for a living and leave the wrenching to the pros.

A guy local to me knows how to properly build a strong complete roller for equal the price as MMS, but the one thing you get more from my local guy is a dyno of what kinda foot print the engine is going to put out with flow numbers as well (pretty much spec'd and documented) .

Well I'm just wanting a solid block. My block has almost 120k on it. Also had a wobbling harmonic balancer for some time. So I'm kind of second thinking the reliability of the bottom end after I throw on a ported 3500 top swap and mild cam, and 65mm tb.

I've been trying to see if there's any interest in my motor for a little while.
If you're interested in just the short block with a mild cam, I'm sure we can come to a mutual agreement.
Here are the vitals (motor has 6000 miles on it since the build):
          3400 block bored .040" over
          ARP rod bolts
1mm oversize Sealed Power hyperutectic pistons (stock 9.5:1 compression)
          Balanced rotating assembly
          New pre-99 timing set
WOT-Tech 1280 cam grind (old stage 3; you'll need different valve springs to use the cam)
Clevite main/rod bearings and Sealed Power cam bearings
Has a factory harmonic balancer but with an ARP crank bolt
Fresh gaskets natually - 3 oil changes since the rebuild using only full synthetic (except for the break-in stuff).

          It's pretty strong.

There is nothing done to that block that is special. Any machine shop can replicate that or with the know how you can do it at home. All you need is pistons, rods and studs to make it happen. Your machine shop can take care of the balancing and if your are comfortable with measuring and assembly you can put it all together.
