  • wideband question

I have a o2 mailbu that i just bought a plx wideband for, i have not been able to find a 12 volt switched source to power it. all the fuses in the block under the hood has power all the time, including the 2 fuses for the iginition, can anybody with a wideband tell me how they got there wideband wired. i found the fuse for the stock w band but it only has 11.5 volts, it doesn't work wired to that fuse ,plx said it has to be 12 or more. thanks

dont be jumping off of fuses in the fuse box, you'll fry something. how many amps does it require? and where does the 12v switched single need to go, to the gauge or sensor? i can tell you where to get a ignition wire from either end safely and easly. is the wire fused that you need to connect to?

Wiring is different now days, I'd say find your radio fuse but it maybe hot all the time with an on off signal from the PCM if they are wired to communicate. If push comes to shove you should be able to tie into your fuel pump relay.

i can tell you where to find safe ignition wires under your underhood fuse box, and under your dash with out having to rip out any panels, they are direct feeds from the ignition switch.i wouldnt ever tap into a fuel pump power feed or radio, because if you short out your wideband, byebye radio, and if your connection is shotty for the tap off the fuel pump, you'll be left stranded one day.

          reply

Thanks for the reply, plx said it has to be between 12 and 18 volts and supply at lease 3 amps , with a 5to7 amp fuse in the line , for safety ,the 12 volt line goes to the control box.

When you measured the 11.5v, was that with the car running, or off?

Nothing wrong with tapping in the fuse panel, just make sure you do it correctly. Theres a blade fuse tap-in that has an additional fuse coming off it, just make sure the fuse you tap off of has a similar AMP rating as required for the WB, specially since it will be powering the heater for the sensor.

EDIT: Just read the 3amp post, 3amps is nothing! You can tap in fine, just make sure you fuse it with a 3.5amp fuse so if anything shorts you are only replacing a fuse. How are they powering the heater on the sensor with only 3amps?

+1 for the "Add-a-fuse" and the radio circuit. That's how i've powered mine for years.

Don't split hairs over half a volt. It'll probably run down to around 9V depending on how well designed the internals are.

did what you said started the car, has 12.5 volts got a add a fuse, using the fuse for the factory o2, i guess 2 heads are better than one, the narrow band work good just like the stocker, my problem now, i'm trying to run the wb through the egr , to a powertuner scanner ,pid stuck at 10, tried a couple different formulas, nothing works, checked the voltage on the 0 to 5 volt line, got 4.92 volts divided that into 10, 20 afr -10 afr got .49 still doesn't work, do i need to run a ground from the egr, last formila is n0(51)*.49 +10, using the signal wire on the egr just spliced into the egr wire, like i said egr is turned off but still getting .50 % egr on that guage. thanks for all the help
