  • 3400 Differences?

I'm in the process of acquiring a 3400 from an Equinox (2005ish i think) from my school for cheap. It was leftover from the Challenge X project and only has a few thousand miles on it. The plan is to put it in my Fiero with a manual trans but before I jump in I'd like to know any major differences between this motor and the car version from say a Grand Am.

What I think I know so far is the oil pan, upper intake, throttle body, and something with the fuel system is different correct? Can i just swap on an oil pan from a car 3400? I don't plan on using Drive By Wire so I'll get a cable driven throttle body and the fuel system shouldn't be an issue as long as whoever tunes the computer for it knows what truck it's from right?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Welcome to the site!

For a list of differences for the Equinox 3400, check out the Family Tree (http://60degreev6.com/content.php/29...V6-Family-Tree). Scroll all the way down to the bottom (since we haven't updated it past 2005 ) and you will see a list of differences.

Thanks for the welcome and information. Just for reference I'm going to paste the Equinox specific parts here:
      # New application in 2005 Chevrolet Equinox (3400 only)
      # 24-X encoded crankshaft (3400 Equinox only)
      # Specific oil pan and improved oil pan gasket material (3400 Equinox only)
      # New intake manifold and improved intake manifold gasket (3400 Equinox only)
      # New engine cover (3400 Equinox only)
      # Electronic throttle control (3400 Equinox only)
      # Returnless fuel rail and pipe assembly (3400 Equinox only)
      # Neutral torque axis engine mount (3400 Equinox only)
      # Air gap exhaust crossover (3400 Equinox only)
      # P05 controller (3400 Equinox only)

Now I have questions about some of these differences. Specifically the oil pan and engine mount. Can these be swapped with parts from a Grand Am version just in case of fitment issues with my 86 Fiero cradle?

I'll have the engine with trans in my possession this weekend. Ended up paying $250 for both which is a steal! Under 2000 miles on them for sure.

Mounts will most likely have to be custom for any 3x00 into a Fiero. I'm not positive on that, but I am pretty sure mounting points on the block have changed over the years. As far as the oil pan swapping, I'm not sure why there is a difference, to be honest with you. Once you get it, you may have to take it off and post some pics for comparison. I know there are differences between the 3x00s and the 3500 oil pans, not only for rod clearances, but also a couple of bolt locations changed.
