  • A stupid question

I have a 60 degree sitting in my shop that had an oil pump go bad. The engine was rebuilt and has less that 200 miles on it (not even broke in). The brand new oil pump decided to start dropping pressure. I'm gonna tear the engine down and replace pump and maybe the bearings but do you think it would hurt anything to reuse the rings. Personally I don't even think the bearings are bad but just want to make sure before I put it back in another truck. It never got below 10psi going down the road and was pulled.

The rings should be fine. Just be careful not to break them during installation and don't forget to make sure the ring end gaps are indexed properly prior to install. Also, don't forget to make sure the piston/rod assy's get back in their original holes like good little gophers . . . :-)

pop the main and rod caps to check the bearings, if they all look good then just throw on another pump and slap it back together... unless you want to tear it all apart. But yes, the rings will be fine.
