  • Grand Prix Surging

I got a 1990 3.1L that starts and idles fine, but once u start driving and u start to slow down for a stop it starts surging sometimes its barely noticeable and other times it seems like its about to kill the car what could be the possible cause behind the surging when coming to stops?

Something to do with the IAC valve most likely.

Does it surge only when off the throttle or does it surge when you accelorate? Does it happen when the engine is cold or hot or does it do it both? does it do it at idle? have you checked all the normal maintenince items? (Fuel Filter, plugs, wires, ect). do you have a full tank of gas or low on gas when this occurs? (had a gas tank baffle brake once.... hit the brakes and the fuel when low would slosh out from where the pump sat... sputtered a couple times).. Like mentioned above could be iac.. remove and clean, then re-install (or try just swaping it w/ new... could allways return it)

it only does it when the throttle is closed and when ur decelerating, it does it when it gets warmed up a bit i could go driving maybe 10 miles or so before it happens. It idles perfectly sitting in the driveway.

The IAC has been replaced along with the MAP sensor, the fuel pump, TPS, plus, wires.

I have also noticed when the car starts to surge the volt meter on the cluster starts bouncing around as well

I got into tearing the motor a part a bit and found that the PVC valve hose was collapsed completely in 2 different spots but would that even be a likely cause for the surging?
