  • Tools required to remove ECM from a 91 Lumina?

I'm headed to the Pull a Part tomorrow to get a 7727 ECM for my project. Unfortunately I'm 200 miles away from my toolbox, so I need to gather up some tools to make the trip with. Can anyone take a look at their lumina and tell me what tools would be required to get it out? Specifically, if there are clearance issues that will require a 10mm socket versus an open end, screwdrivers, etc. Unfortuantely, the pull apart is 25miles each way, so I don't want to make multiple trips.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I'm not sure if the 91 Lumina has the coolant reservoir in the way, but other than that, it's just 3 10mm nuts holding the ECM in place and the 4 plugs on the back. If it still has the plastic shroud covering the plugs, a pair of pliers will be helpful.

Anyone need anything off this one while I'm there? I could grab some smaller stuff, won't have the tools to get any big stuff. It's only been on the lot for a couple days so I'm hoping it isn't too picked over

I think there's just one 10mm nut to remove for the reservoir on the strut tower, and one 8mm head screw attachment point on the brace. Not 100% sure on size of either though since my car isn't set up that way, hopefully someone else can chime in.

Bottom line, since it's in the JY and you don't want that part, you can probably twist the hell out of it if necessary. You really only need the 10mm wrench to get the part you want.

Lunch break success! Someone had already pulled the reservoir - I assume to get at the serpentine belt - nothing else appeared to be missing. Two 10.. nuts and a lot of wire snipping (I wanted the plug and as much of the harness as I could get) and it was out. Also grabbed the bracket while I was there (3 more 10mm nuts) so I'd have a nice clean installation in my MGB. This weekend I'll grab my 3.4 harness for surgery and soon will have an ODBC1 3.4 setup to progress the project. If anyone has or knows of the location of a set of iron head headers that I could cut up for a custom exhaust rig, that's my next target.

            Thanks,
            Paul
