OK, so, now I'm thinking more and more about the FWD timing cover.

PS not an issue, I can get a S10 manual box and be done with that. more room for turbo headers...

BUT, what needs to be modded on the FWD timing cover so that it clears the upper intake when it's facing the "wrong" way ?

    Anyone done this before ?

I think the PS "bracket support" on the timing cover is what becomes the concern...... If you plan on going manual, you could just slice that portion off and call it a good day..... Don't forget though, that the belt routing WILL need to be addressed since the PS or a PS delete pulley is there to make the routing of the belt doable... So an additional idler or few might be needed to allow for the lack of PS pulley.

Well, the mock-up motor in my car has the mani facing like FWD and if GTU hands me that Walker bottle, I might be inclined to go out, pop the hood and see if there's room for the t-stat housing :P

And since you already know you motor is up to par, I would concentrate on just the install right now before upgrading.

Just flipping UIM clears the PS mounting holes, not sure about LIM though.

If you say "up" it's probably too cold for me (shorts and t-shirt is where it's at), guess I have to stay here and drink Bud Light

As I came back in to grab the camera, I remembered taking the t-stat housing off to get the LIM to fit. since the RWD timing cover needs to be notched to clear the LIM, I just spun it around since I just needed to see if the turbos could squeeze in there. I also opted to use the s10 steering box and nix the PS in favor of A/C

Forced, what am I looking at here ^ ?

Is that the RWD timing cover or FWD ?

Not much room there at all...

If one were to try to cut the yellow section out...

Would leave some meat for an idler pulley to turn the water pump, AND allow the thermostat housing to be there...

                    ?

That was a 3.1l iron head block bolted in my 1990 Firebird with the 3400 LIM coolant neck facing the firewall. That is the space between the firewall and LIM.

no go on the FWD timing cover.. right where the LIM T stat neck would be is a coolant passage. You would have to cut through that, weld both sides shut and run a hose around..
