hmm, i would've thought the lighter? f-body to be faster than the GN. the 89 Trans Am (20th? anniverssary) is the fastest production F-body ever made...

Or maybe I meant 3.8 because of the Grand Nash. That car held a title aswell.
The 90* engines still hold these titles. But no 60*6's do.
But look at how long its taken someone to do this. Couple points.
1. Dodge needed a V-10 to outbeat a V-6.
2. It's taken many years for any manufactuer to try this with a truck.
3. The SRT-10 is a full size pick-up, The Syclone was a small pick-up.
And finally... The Syclone is just better, funner, and owns. So bump dodge and there viper motors. 4 less cylinders, better gas milage = Still alot of fun.\'03 Impala with 3400

It's pointless to say it takes a v10 to beat that v6 when you fail to mention that the v6 is boosted and the v10 is naturally aspirated... comparing apples to oranges (not to mention you kinda contradict Point 1 with Point 3 by stating the Dodge is heavier... so then ya, it will take more cubes to move that thing). And the reason it has taken so many years for anyone to try this, with a truck, is because it is not practical nor cost effective. Do you think Dodge is going to make big sales with that truck? Nope. Do you think GM made big sales with the Turbo3.8? Prolly not. If it was a huge seller they would have developed them further and continue to pump them off the assembly line. I'm not knockin on the Sy/Ty's... they are sweet and rare trucks.

The 60* will run smoother than the 90*. Because the journals are evenly spaced 120* so every 60* of rotation a piston hits TDC. Whereas the 3.8 when it originally came out was an odd fire design. The journals were placed at 120* but, because the banks are offset at 90* you have a piston reach TDC at 90* of crank rotation and at 30*. Later, it was redesigned to be an even fire with special journal offsets, which made the crank weaker. The Turbo TA was slightly faster than the GN, but was not faster the very limited run of the GNX, the cars were capable of 0-60 in 4.5 sec. and 1/4 mi times of 13.2 @ 105 mph this was on a supposed 285hp. The claimed hp for the 86/87 GN was only 5 hp more than the Vettes 230hp. Production of the GN the turbo T-Type was ended not because of poor sales (if it was to be ended because of poor sales figures it would have been ended long before 87), and the Cutlass and Grand Prix, also had excellent sales figures. But because GM was going to a FWD platform, which was an unfortunate thing.

Don't go knocking the 60º Engine for reliability. Read my signature.
The Ty/Sy were awesome trucks in their day, and still are today, but they are not the fastest. The Ram SRT-10 is faster, and Ford makes the Lightning which is faster also. The SRT-10 holds the record as the fastest top speed at 155mph for a production truck, and also the fastest 1/4mile if I am not mistaken. I am sure there are some lightning owners that would try to argue about the 1/4mile though. Of course this has nothing to do with this subject.1995 Pontiac GTP
Over $12K invested, and still its slow. Maybe thats because thats most all repairs. Don\'t knock the engine though, because thats the only part that has seemed to last.

The Sy/Ty is still cooler. The first AWD pickup that hauled ass with a little 6 cylinder. Looked cool cuz it was lowered and with a tasteful bodykit from the factory.
GM needs to do it again with a Turbo I6 AWD Canyon. Or get off there asses and put aluminum heads on the big block pump out 600Hp and sell it in a 1500 series with a 6 speed. It aint hard and I bet they have performance cylinder heads in stock.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

They did a concept with the new Inline6, Twin Turbos and AWD in a TrailBlazer if I'm am not mistaken. I doubt GM will ever build it though. Look at their latest Performance truck. What a freaking joke. Yea the SS is AWD, but N/A 6.0L and cost nearly as much as a SRT-10. If they really wanted to do a SS and be competitive with it they should have got the truck around the lightnings price, made it lighter than the lightning, and dropped in a 6.0L with a BLOWER!
I swear GM fired all the engineers that lived by the rule of KISS and the people that actually knew automobiles, and hired brainless idiots instead. Look at some of the crap they are putting out now. Best part about a 90* is aftermarket heads, stroker kits, easier to fab up a manifold. The 60* in still my fav but I wish GM would do us all a fav and develop some parts for it. Cranks, aftermarket CNC'd big valve heads, short runner big plenum intake would be nice. Would be nice to see a reliable 600+ 60* running the strip's in a tube chassis GM car just for fun.....

On a side note, I beat a 99-2002 Grand Prix GT 0-90 in my heavy convert with the LQ1. Two door, wasnt a huge win by any means, but i got grip before him, pulled so his front end was lined up with my door and we stayed there until 90.
