  • LG8 LIM Gaskets (Metal)

So im puttin lower intake metal gaskets in a 2000 3100 and i notice that instead of having the finger style push rod guide that the plastic gaskets have, these have little rubber nipples that are labeled as guides for 3 of the rods on each side. Just curious why they did that?

Weird to me. But the box says 99-2005 3.1 and 3.4 GM. I guess its just a design thing

Those are the revised gaskets, and it's what you want. The piss poor original all plastic ones crack over time, and are bound to fail again, espeically with failure to flush the DexCool regularly.

I used this same kit when I re-did my LIM gasket, and they work very well. Coolant still looks great after a year, and 20K later.

My guess is to rest the pushrod when you remove the rocker arm and the lower intake is still on. Short of that, it serves no purpose on a running engine.

Yup, the rockers are aligned with the notches in the head, and don't use push rod guides.

The older 3100 motors with ball/pivot rockers used pushrod guides bolted to the block since the rockers were not self aligning.

Either way the gasket doesn't align the rods or do anything in that regard.
