  • McLaren 3.1L Turbo V6 + Fiero = Oh yeah...

    Hello, all.

I am new to the site, here, as you can tell. i am an owner of a Pontiac Fiero. inside of this fiero currently sits a Mclaren 3.1L turbo V6, out of a 1990 Grand Prix.

check out this thread for info: http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/102091.html

what do you all think? any comments/questions/tips? would appreciate any.

    thanks, guys. :]

cool, but if you can swing the cash for it, drop in a 3400 or 3500 and something similar to a GT3776: it's a good match for a small port 3100 making around 18psi, so a slightly larger snail could benefit the better flowing motors.

I'm working on a turbo 3.1 top end right now, the heads can flow fairly well with a bit of work.

it looks nice to me. im not a fan of the colour just because we have an assload of taxis here with a similar shade of mandarin. lol it looks like its in good shape though and other than your alternator problem it seems to have went in pretty effortlessly. it looks good in there too. im not too familiar with fierros but did the original 3.1 look like the one that goes in the W body cars that didnt get a turbo too?

No, the Fiero had a 2.8, and it was a gen1 with iron heads and different intake manifold that said Fiero on it.

ahhhh but is it the same basic shape? ...other than the writing and the fact the heads are made from a different metal all together, would a blind man be able to feel the difference? lol

It's basically a camaro 2.8 motor with a cosmetic intake manifold and turned 90*. I think it has more HP than the standard 2.8 gen1 though. Like 140hp.

ive never in my life seen a camaro with a 2.8... lol the very least a 3.4... but that may have been a transam. what would the point be, half the show with none of the go? how much HP is a 2.8 capable of making without going overboard on it? ill bet on my lumi against any 2.8 stock camaro. *my engine i think is stock. LOL

i would almost be willing to bet that there are more third-gen camaros with 2.8s than any other motor they could be had with...

i dunno, american yeah... but here in canada things were a little different. if they did have an assload of them, then they must not have survived or something because they arent around anymore.... did they migrate south?

most third-gens didn't survive.... or the motor was swapped, or they got imported down here, something.

Seriousy? It was the base engine for all f-bodies from '82 to '89. How could you miss that?

Nice fiero Mr jacob7, now just upgrade the heads and you'll have a sweet motor on your hands that still looks factory.
Increasingly I find the difference between a "fact" and an opinion is the number of people who believe it.

3.4 block converted to roller valvetrain with 220/225 cam on 115 lsa, '769' heads with 3500 valves, LS6 springs & porting, twin T04E turbos, 3500 plenum with ported 3400 lower & 'short star' 65mm throttle.
