A few months ago I upgraded my 3500 to the 99 timing set (sprockets, guide, and chain). Everything went great, but I noticed that after my MPG's fell a lot, about 5MPG. I figured it was just due to having the battery unplugged and having to relearn the trims. I can get just over 200 miles per tank when before I was hitting almost 300. I've tested and tested when I filled up and my gas mileage STILL hasn't returned! I plan on installing a new intake pipe and new MAF along with a cone filter, so I know I am going to be retuning again soon and hopefully bring back my MPG's, but what the hell happened to them from just changing my chain?

Chain is a little bulkier, but I can't see it changing it that much unless you are off a tooth or something on the timing.

a timing set alone won't cause issues like this...

I made sure a number of times that it was absolutely perfect, I took enough care to not turn anything as well to keep the timing dead on. That is the first thing I thought ofSpudFiles

Do you screw up the setting of your external trigger sensor when you removed the cover? That could cause your timing to be off as well.-Brad-

Have you had any more metal shavings in the oil? What was the cause of that? Did you ever figure that out?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
