well, for a whille i had noticed coolant disappearing slowly from my coolant tank. i didn't want to think the worst, so i figurerd maybe there was just air in the system.
the car is a 96 gagt with a 3100 v6. it has the upper and lower intake manifolds from a 2000 malibu. when i swapped the intakes, i gasket matched the ports of the heads to the new gaskets and replaced the head gaskets.
well, that was 40k miles ago. i had noticed a small puddle of coolant in the garage the other day and i said wtf is this? so, i thought i was imagining things and wiped off the floor and parked the car in the garage again. i haven't driven the car in a few days, but i looked underneath to find a little puddle again toward the firewall on the right hand side.
so, i jack up the ga, and go underneath. i'm looking between the block and the heads and it seems wet. i'm wondering where it's coming from, but it seems obvious. the head closest to the firewall must have blown the head gasket. i started to look at the underside of the exhaust manifold and i can see where the pressure must be relieving itself onto the manifold. i used to smell coolant every now and then and i guess this is where it's coming from.
my main question is why did the gasket go? it has never been run hot. further inspection of the motor let me believe that the lim gasket has started to leak because right at the themostat housing, where the block meets the transmission there is a small puddle.
i just put this car together a year ago, replaced all the necessary gaskets and drove trouble free until now. what went wrong? do i have a bad head now? i'd rather reseal the rear head and do the intake gasket over and keep the car running. if this is going to turn in drama, i just do have the energy for it anymore.
ps, i drained the oil out, it was dirty, but no milk shake. THANK THE LORD.
any advise would be appreciated. thanks
