  • Ok, thanks! That helps. So for two people who have never done this before, this shouldn't take more than a week. That's good.

Take a look back at the picture of those parts sitting on my toolbox. Can you identify those parts for me? I know one of them connects the two exhaust manifolds, and one is the MAF/MAP sensor. Other than that, I don't know what the other ones are. Thank you!

    • been a while since i looked at a large-port but yeah, all the way left is the exhaust crossover, the towering beast is the MAF and whats snaking around it is a coolant line, goes on the top of the water pump. i think the two lines under it are for the A/C.

if there is anything else in that pic, i can't see it.

      • The lines under the coolant hard line looked more like lines that go to the fuel rail to me. Also that hard coolant line in the back with the bracket (the bracket is held down by a nut to the rear head) looks like the one that goes to the LIM pointing towards the rear of the engine just behind the t-stat and would be for your heater core. The thing beside the MAF to the left covers the t-stat and hooks to the radiator hose on the drivers side.

          • Well, I'm glad I've got a garage big enough to do it in, only problem is that I only have about a week to do it (working 3-4 hours per day). Plus, I don't really have any help/advice. I have to "sink or swim" on this one.

I'm new to swaping engines, so any advice as to what to do first, any recomendations on tools to do the job, ect. would be greatly appreciated.

            Thanks in advance!

            • congrats on the job, you're beating me

that pic i sent you should help as to the order of things, as for tools: cheap ones are cheap now, but cost in the end... pick up stanley stuff if you can, fairly cheap, lifetime warranty, strong enough for this situation.

              • I had a hairy trip transporting the car to my garage tonight. We hooked it up (by chain) to my dad's S10. We had to take it over 1 mile across town after dark. It not running, ment that I had to work at it to steer it around the corners following the truck. Every time my dad took off from a stop sign, the chain whacked the front bumper of the Grand Prix (front licence plate took a beating, ).
After getting it to the garage, we had to get it up the driveway (steep incline). Needless to say, the ol' S10 took a beating as well. We ended up blowing a brake line on the truck too. Man, does that stuff stink!

After lots of laughing (and swearing), we finaly got it up into the garage. Now I will begin disassembly tomorrow.

Diff lube stinks worse... My order of hated car fluids from worst to I don't mind it on me goes:

Gear lube > Antifreeze > ATF > Brake fluid > Gas

I can't stand the smell of gear lube, and I can't stand the feel of antifreeze... ATF stinks too, but not as bad as gear lube. If you wonder why, offer to change the gear lube in your dad's truck for him

luckily i've never smelled any of those things, so i wasn't going to suggest them.

got a story to tell about shit-infected monkey balls?

Yeah, it's what I smelled when I pulled the diff cover on the replacement axle on my truck. Gear lube + friction modifier for the LSD...

                          • Well, now my dad's truck is dead. He's looking for a different car now.
I feel bad that it happened while he was doing something for me, but he also told me that he had been neglecting proper maintainence for the thing. So it's not all my fault.

I had another job interview today, so tomorrow I will begin disassembly of the 2.8 I hope to get things really goin' on Friday and Saturday. I'll keep ya posted on the progress. Thanks for being of so much help.

man, but it burns your nostrils like moldy piss mixed with rubbing alcohol poured on burning tires that were used to drive over the rotting corpses of all the H1N1, H1N3 and madcow infected animals.

Ok......? You guys have too much time on your hands. For one thing, that's just freakin' disgusting!

Let's get back to the topic in which the thread is dealing with. Does anyone really remember what we were talking about? I mean, all my mind can think about now is rotting corpses, infested monkey shit, and testicles boiled in who knows what!
