yeah that is one good thing about GM: slow to adapt to new things...

MOST things should plug in directly, the only two things i can think of ATM that won't are EGR and the coolant temp...

Yah he mentioned those too. All I have to do is take them out of the 2.8 and Stick them on the 3x00. Real easy.

How many bolts hold the tranny on to the engine? I hope the 2.8's tranny fits the 3x00.

for coolant temp: the newer motor uses a single temp sensor that has three wires instead of the older setup that uses 2 sensors: 1 with 1 wire and another with 2 wires...

EGR: does it use the same connector? BTW: which EGR did your GP come with? if you have the hood open yet, take a pic of it and we'll know if its a backpressure/EVRV or digital...

the tranny will DEFINITELY bolt up. is it a 3 or 4 speed?

EDIT: might need to swap the guts of the 2.8 TB onto the new one so that the linkages match...

          Thanks Robert,

I think it is a four speed (1,2,3,D,R,P).

I hope it doesn't need to have the TB taken apart. I know a lot about diesel fuel systems (I have a degree in Diesel Technology), but I don't know much about TBs. I took Auto. Tech. in High School, but mostly all we dealed with was carbs.

            Oh by the way,

Will the 2.8s ECM plug into the '00 3x00? The guy I got it from said it should.
It didn't come with the computer.

...by ECM if you mean all of the connections, then yes except for coolant and EGR... but those have been worked around...

what ECM is it? namely does it have a MAF or MAP sensor

yes, you have a 4 speed (4t60, th440-t4 whatever you want to call it).

swapping TB guts isn't that hard, i'm trying to think of who did it recently or made a guide of it...

EDIT: and your ECM WILL require tuning... a 3x00 wants a lot different fuel and timing compared to a 2.8...

                Ok,
How do you tune the ECM? Is it very hard?

The 3x00 has a MAF and I think the 2.8 does too.

                  as per my own rules:

                  ask Ben about tuning.

he should be able to hook you up with a good tune...

he happens to own WOT-Tech, which is that nice banner you see near the top of the page.

There is a forum about WOT-Tech though,

I got on the WOT-Tech website: I couldn't find a 2.8 to 3100 swap chip. (is that what I need?) All they have is 2.8 to 3.1 swap chips '88-94.

What would happen if I didn't tune the ECM right away? Would it still run?

talk to him personally. then he'll set you on the right path.

if you didn't have it tuned right away: it would probably run, but i would be concered with knock/severe lean issues...
