This is interesting here.. When my 95gagt 2-door was stock with the "small port 3100" and automatic mind you, I had gotten in the 30-32mpg highway religously, everytime I went to miami or west palm. I couldnt tell you what the FDR was in the 4T60E for that year. But as most people might remember, I claimed my car was in the 2500lbs range, checked within 50lbs between 2 cert. scales a few years ago. 60mph in top gear with converter engaged was like 1750rpm I believe? Only mod was a shorty tube with a open cone filter on the end.

Efficiency and torque. The V8s have so much torque compared to the V6 and particularly the 4 cyl, they can pretty much hold cruise speed idling along. It's best to build pre E85 motors with as much compression as the intended fuel can handle to counter the ubiquitous 10% ethanol mix in fuel now. Chances are everyone has another 2 mpg potential as a result of the ethanol blend. Usually the weaker the motor the higher the rpm you're going to see compared to the same platform with a larger engine. The fiero had about a 400 rpm torque converter stall difference between the V6 and 4 cylinder. The Turbo sunbird used a 2700 stall converter with its 1.8L motor.

Raise the compression and get more power and economy.

I get 31, sometimes rarely 32 mpg highway. around 26 mpg around town. I use cruise on the highway like its the law.
