  • Too much fuel pressure?

I am running a '02 3400 on '98 injectors. I am suspect that I mixed up my regulators and put the '02 fpr on the '98 rail. My car bogs if you give it fast throttle, and seams to run poorly at wot. I checked my fual pressure. It is around 50psi @ idle, and 59 psi @ wot. The regulator is working (when I remove vaccuum it holds constant 59 psi) I'm pretty sure the '98 injectors (19#) call for 43.5 psi @ wot correct? Could my symptoms be a result of too high of fuel pressure? If so would changing to the older regulator solve the problem?

Sounds like the issue and yes, without tuning that will be too much fuel. Swap the regulator out and it should run normal again.

Thanks. I will try a different regulator and see what that does.

I swapped regulators and it seems to have cured 90% of the problem. The drivability is much better, however, it still bogs down at wide open throttle and has a very slight hessitation when the throttle is applied quickly. Any other ideas? I have already replaced the TPS and fuel filter. It is almost as if the car isn't getting enough air. Could this be?

How new is the O2 sensor? Mine always bogged a bit off the line until I replaced it. I was used to rolling into the pedal before I changed it..

It's got some years on it. I'll try changing it.

I checked my plugs. They were a little worn and the gaps were off. I put new plugs in and still had a miss. But better then before. The fuel pressure is good and the car isn't running rich as it was. Then when it was getting dark I was messing around with the engine after a test drive. I revved it and noticed an arc to the head from the #5 boot to the head. Yep sure enough the boot was split and the metal clip had seperated from the wire. fixed that up and she seems to be running like it should. Now I am excited for baseline dyno time!!! Thanks for the help guys.

Have you had your set of fuel injectors serviced or cleaned (off the vehicle) or are they new?
