  • 58x reluctor events?

    I have tried searching 660 and google. I'm looking for the "event" cycles of a 58x reluctor wheel on a 3500 crank. the reason is i'm running a haltech ecu in my 3400 cav. I am going to do a 3500 swap, and, the Haltech can be setup for a 58x or 60-2 reluctor. the only thing is, i dont know how to set it up, as in. How many teeth before, or after a firing position, or injection cycle? Trigger degrees? Where is the "home" trigger, and where is the firing order events start on a 58x reluctor?
    I hope that makes sense. If i can figure this out, it would be very adventageous because if the Haltech can run off a 58x wheel, then it would be silly to buy the external trigger, I will if i have to, but if i can avoid it that would be much preferable.

    That's the reason why you need the external trigger setup. There is no home position on the reluctor wheel. It's not made with what you want to do in mind.

      it does have some different notches indicating firing events, i tried to get a waveform off of mine with my o-scope but couldn't get anything good.

        I can't seem to find something I remember seeing, but here is the way I understand it to work... Basicly, its just as Dave and Andy said: There is no true "home" position, and its not a set pattern. Instead, each piston has a unique spacing associated with it, therefore the engine knows exactly what position each piston is in at all times. Its kind of like a morse code type configuration (easiest way to explain it), where as Piston 1 is dash-dash-dot-dash, 2 is dash-dot-dash-dot, 3 is dash-dot-dot-dot, etc... Therefore, the triggering would give dash-dash-dot-dash-dash-dot-dash-dot-dash-dot-dot-dot...

          I mapped it all out once and compared it to the 7x wheel, i'll see if i can find the excel sheet later today

            thanks much guys, I have seen (when searching) that there are topics on the 58x on ls1 forums, BUT, thats a v8, with direct fire ignition. so, that wouldnt be the same...
            I'm trying some more searching, to see what i come up with. its hard on search engines, because ls1 lsx stuff is what always comes up. Does anybody happen to have an FSM for a 3500 equipped vehicle either?

              The newer engines (LSx & 60V6) use a 60-2 configuration that is often referred to as a 58X. It would work for what you want to do but, as Brad and Dave said, the LX9 has a bastard configuration.

                ^^ hmm very interesting.

                i did more searching, couldnt find much, except gm news, and funny enough, one of the top search picks was "how to 3500 swap" on v6z24, lol

                i need to lay my hands on a FSM that covers a 3500

                  me and my dad are working on my sisters 93 olds 98, in the FSM, it actually has a very nice picture/chart of the 18x reluctor events that the 3800 uses! Now, if i can track down a 3500 FSM i can see if its in that one too. I know a guy that may have one, i'll see if he does so i can grab the info. (if i can)
