The left picture is the spring I have . The one on the right matches the measerments that you had Superdave. These do not fit my head. They are too big on the botton.

Hmm that doesn't look like a 3100 spring you have... Maybe it is a 3.1mpfi spring???sigpicNew 2010 project (click image)

3.1 MPFI springs are just as wide at the bottom as 3100 springs and are not beehive.
Here are some LS1 springs installed on a 3400 head.. Notice i couldn't use the 3x00 seats due to the smaller diameter of the spring.
I could probably get one locally and measure the diameters just to be sure.

Looks like I may try to use the 3100 stock springs. What kind of bottom spring seat does the 3100 spring use. Is there a GM part # , so I can get some. I need a bottom base that will fit my head and hold the bottom form moving as there is little clearence on my head when using the wide base 3100 springs. I have the LS1 base seatss. They will git my head , but will not work with the wider 3100 stock base. Thanks.

does your head use the 2 part setup where the seal sits on the valve guide and the seat just sits on the base?
If so then you'll want to get seats for a gen2 3.1/2.8.
I actually have some sitting around, if you want I can clean them up and send them to you for the cost of shipping. I'll snap a pic of them with a stock 3100 spring tonight.

I found some but probably not enough to do your head. They do perfectly fit the base of the 3100 springs. maybe 1mm of side to side movement.

Can you get me a picture of them. The inside dia. needed to fit my guides is
.520 so the base retainer will not move. The bottom inside dia. of the stock 3100 spring is close to .922 . The base retainer will have to hold the bottom of the spring in so it also does not move. I have very little clearence on the Quad head and I must hold the spring in place or it will hit part of the head.

here are 2 pics..
the ID is .513", OD is 1.340" and .040" thick
you can open these up with a die grinder to fit snug on the stem. Should only take a few seconds per seat.

I checked and GMPartsdirect.com does not have a listing for them either.. weird.
