Looking for new 3100 stock valve springs. The replacement ones that GM has are diff. then the stock 3100 springs and do not fit my application. I have used ones that work , but would like new ones. Anyone with any ideas or infomation on obtaining new GM original stock type springs ? Thanks .

I drag race a GM 2.3 Quad twin cam engine. The stock 3100 valve springs fit my head and the stock retainers. They also have the open and closed pressures that I need to run higher lift cams that we also run. The stock Quad springs do not have enough pressure. I have tested stock 3100 original valve springs and they will do what I need . The GM replacement springs that I can get are bigger at the bottem then the stock 3100 and do not fit my Quad GM head. I do not need over 235 to 240 lbs pressure for my application. Thanks.Comment

all the 94-04 3100 and 3400 valve springs are the same, if there is a difference in the ID of the bottom it would be very minimal since there was a slight revision in the valve guides/seal-seat setup in '99. Should only be a mm or 2.
what is the ID that you are looking for? maybe stock LS1 springs would work better.Comment

3100 springs
The stock 3100 bottoms are around 1.210 in dia. The LS1 springs have too much spring pressure. To use them you would have to cut the seats deeper . I did not want to do that.Comment

They aren't much different than stock (2-3#). Are you sure you are comparing the springs at the same height?Ben

I check them at 1.625 intsalled and 1.195 open, that is what I use on my head. I will recheck the LS1 and the 3100 spring pressure again.Comment

The specs. I have for the LS1 springs are 80 lbs. at 1.76 closed and 250 lbs at 1.26 open .Comment

The specs. I have on the stock 3100 valve springs are :
1.89 free lenght
75 lbs. at 1.701"
230 lbs. at 1.260
`1.701 install height
Top OD around 1.015
ID top.653
Bottom OD around 1.213
ID Bottom .841Comment

I have .917 ID and 1.343 OD at the bottom
.660 -.650 ID and 1.073 OD at the top
Not sure on the open/closed specs but this is a stock 3x00 spring.
What did your original 3100 springs come off of?Comment

I got them here on the parts wanted section. The person said they were the original stock 3100 springs. The specs. I posted are the 3100 stock spring specs. he gave me.Comment

I also have a bazillion stock 3400 and 3500 springs along with a spring tester that goes only goes up to 125#, but can measure stacked height and open pressure...Originally posted by rseibenick View Post
