any ideas? have had the car for a few months now and still cant figure it out. hard wire then and they run, the relays ect are fine according to the shop so im stuck. doesnt really get "hot" does get damn close to the 3/4 mark whenever im pulling our mountains tho. so id like to get this fixed. i know i need to recharge my ac but without my fans running they say they cant recharge it

Just so you know, on a stock 2000 Grand Am GT. Low speed fans don't turn on until 223*F and the high speed fans don't kick on until 232*F.

the half mark is 200, so when it gets almost to the 3/4 mark id assume that they would come on, but they wasnt. and another thing, when i turn my ac on, shouldnt the fan come on? even if there isnt any refrigerent in the system.

fans only kick on from a/c if the a/c builds enough pressure, but since i'm guessing, the compressor doesn't move, not enough pressure...

and don't trust the guages, they're not very accurate. scanner FTW.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my '01 Grand AM GT. I'll be trying to figure it out this coming weekend.

well so far i have figured out that it wont get all the way to the 3/4 mark, but id still like to lower that. and cant afford any tuning (17 years old, layed off, baby coming, married, ect ect ect ect..) i guess im going to have to live with it, or put a switch on one of the fans.

I did a oil change the car this weekend an then took it out for a little beating to heat it up and to start diagnosing my fan problem. When I got home I opened the hood and found the fans to be on at low speed. It had to creep up to halfway between 1/2 and 3/4 on the gauge (that 100 deg celsius, sorry I'm Canadian) for the fans to switch to high speed. I'm a little shocked that the gauge reading had to get that high for the fans to go to high speed. I wish I could be more help but my car seems to be working fine. I will however figuring out how to go directly to high speed when i get my hands on a wiring diagram.

100 deg C is only 212F. thats not that high.

Yes but it "looks" high on the guage..or maybe it's just my the inaccuracy of my gauge..

find someone with a scanner, then you'll see just how far off that guage is. and 212F is very acceptable for a stock car to operate at.

In my 02 GAGT the fans never came on until I had the turn on temp lowered. I'm assuming your just not getting the car hot enough to need the fans running.

well we have some steep ass mountains, like never gets out of 2nd and holds at like 3500 rpms for 25 minutes, it deffinatly gets up there, just recently iv had it reach the 3/4 mark, i stoped and let it sit and run and cool to the half mark and went on. so i am thinking of putting one of them on a switch. because these mountains will absolutly burn them up

your tranny would also benefit from some extra cooling in those conditions...
