  • 3.1 to carb

Removig the EFI from a 3.1, have the carb and manifold from a 2.8. had run the EFI fuel line with an external electric fuel pump, can I now use these lines for the carb with some king of pressure reducer? Engine is in a 47 Chevy. Have the EFI and complete wiring harness for the 3.1 91 Camaro, and I don't need it!

The 3.1l's have diiferent intake port positions than the old carb iron heads. So if you want to use a carb you have to use 2.8l iron head heads to use a carb or custom make a manifold. I asked the same question a couple of days ago. See thread "Head swap, please help" under Pushrod Performance to see what I mean

All RWD iron head 2.8 3.1 and 3.4 heads are interchangable. The older 2.8's pre 85 had smaller valves. The alumium heads uses a different intake. The efi fuel lines will work you can use a fuel pressure regulator to decrease the pressure from the electric fuel pump. But advance or auto zone sells a inline electric fuel pump which may be cheaper than buying a regulator and it wont have to have the regulator.

          Heads

Someone had told me about the rear wheel drive 3.1's and 2.8's had the same heads, thanks for the fuel pressure advice.

If you do not have a return line you cannot use the stock pump. If you do have a return line just get a return style regulator for carb applications and set your pressure and your good to go. You can never run a pump without a regulator, weather it be integrated into the pump or external.

What "pulses" are you talking about?
