  • A/C delete kit question.....

my lil brother bought himself a nice lil 95 Grand Prix SE (3100 SFI v6)and the only thing wrong with it, is the A/C compressor whines and what not. He bought the A/C delete kit for it and is waiting for me to come out to his house and put it on for him.My question is....what am i in for? Do all of the A/C lines have to come out? I was told that a professional should mess with an A/C system, but a couple diff parts stores told me opposite. They said anyone with basic common knowledge of vehicles can do this easily. Will i have to de-pressurize the system before hand? if so....how do i do that? I know that when i change the belt on my 95 Grand Am GT (L82 3100) i have to remove my passenger side motor mount completely out. Is this the same procedure on the Grand Prix?? Any info on this would be greatly appriciated....thnx guys

GP will be easy as pie. Lots of room on the side to work with and once you remove the compressor, more room appears down below too!

You dont NEED to remove ALL the a/c junk, just the compressor. If the system has a leak, then it should all be depressurized, if not, then you SHOULD take it somewhere and have it vacuumed out......

There will not be the mount on the side like you know it on your Grandamn. The GP uses radiator support style mounts.

I dont know how long it should take, but I'd go to assume 1 to 2 hours working steadily for the GP.

Grandamn will be longer of course.

it took me bout an hour on my beretta. with a free spinning pulley, it should give you a little more power.

There's no power to be gain, just lbs and room.

the room makes it worth it, espically if you remove ALL the ac components. it cleaned up my engine bay soo well

why wouldn't you just fix the a/c? It isn't that difficult.

much better than hacking up the original equipment.

Chances are if the compressor is making a grinding noise, and when you flip on the AC or Defog (and the compressor clutch actually engages, which won't happen if the system is near empty) and the noise stops, then chances are all you need to do is adjust the compressor clutch. They rent a tool for it and it's fairly easy. Lots of places just suggest an entire new compressor when this happens when all it needs is adjusting (usually)!

I am sorry for derailing, but could you explain how to adjust it, cuz my TGP is like that and I would like to fix it.
