True, but that thing's ugly! Maybe eventually after I drive a while and see how I like this setup, but this should work fine for now.

I pulled the heads and extra small stuff today, then I came home and Carfax'd the car (2001 Olds Alero 3400), found out it has 134k on it and in the beginning it was a rental, *DOH* (the odometers are digital so you can't read them at the junkyard unless you have a 12v power supply, heh). I think they'll be fine, they look reasonable from what I can see so far and I'll change the valve seals anyway. The car was front-ended mildly and totaled so I imagine it ran before that.
I don't want to rebuild these simply because it's a used TGP 3.1 that I'll be putting them on anyway. I pulled a 3100 upper and TB from an 01 Malibu because this one said 3400 of course, and it was missing its TB already.

As a side note: I wouldn't have thought that Northstars and Aurora 4.0's were more common than 3400's or late 3100's, but that seemed to be the case in the JY, heh. Weird. There was even a Shortstar (3.5 DOHC V6) in the car next to the Alero.

As another side note: Isn't it awesome that I have a wife that likes to come to the JY with me and help?

Sounds like you live around by me with those type of junk yards. Where you at Alltrbo? Michigan?

Nah, Maryland (unfortunately). Do you mean that because of the engines I mentioned, or because it's a you-pull-it type yard? AFAIK, those types of yards are all over the place.

The engines you mentioned are pretty much all we have up here that no one touches. The cars with 3x00's or gen 1's and 2's are raped of there goods and left for the smasher. :

Ahh, that makes sense. The engines mentioned are either newer and more reliable, and/or typically owned by people who can afford to pay someone else to fix their car when it's broken.
It wasn't so much the amount of remains, just the amount of cars with those engines.
