  • Anyone with a 3400/late 3100 apart?

If one wouldn't mind, I'd like someone to flip the upper intake w/TB on their late 3100 or 3400 backwards (without the P/S pump installed of course) and take pics for me so I can see what clearance issues, if any, there are.

If you have one partially apart (or don't mind taking it apart, heh) it would be greatly appreciated if you could do this for me. I don't have one of my own right now.
    Thanks!

Too bad you didn't post this like 3-4 days ago. I just got done doing intake gaskets and a fuel pump in an '02 GA GT :P

I know there is an issue with the timing cover hitting the TB or TB neck. Unfortunately, I am currently on a business trip away from all of my parts to confirm exactly. John (forced_firebird) or Ben should be able to do this quite easily for you though.

the portion that hits would that be the P/S pump bracket? if so that could be hacked off..

iirc You'll need the dummy pulley to take the lack of belt up so the belt rides water pump.

Yeah but for that you just need one bolt hole, so the upper ones could probably go. The 3500 uses an idler with just one bolt hole where the PS pump normally goes.

Yeah I've been thinking about all that too, but I wanted to get some visuals first to narrow down every possibility that's been running through my mind... ...to see if it's even possible in the most basic form, ya know?

                The conversation is informative, though!

i didnt even think about the throttlebody, i think the plenum next to it had a tb too lol. if ya want i will go snap a shot with tb for ya. it ALMOST clears the ps bracket.

Hey, sorry for not acknowledging this sooner. Thanks for the pics! It looks like the throttlebody will clear everything that's there, right? If that's the case then I don't need pics with the TB on.

It's still hard to tell, but I think with a bit of cutting/grinding (no power steering here) and some fancy work with other accessories, this might work. I still need to stare at this for a while though, I should just go to the J/Y and come home with a whole 3100 top-end (great, more junk parts with no room to store them, heh).

yeah one think that may be tricky with a fwd is intake or tb clearance with the side of the engine bay. what about the altrenator belt? that may be tricky too

Hmm, it's not FWD but now that you mention it, the TB outlet might still run straight into the Fiero's strut tower because it's angled slightly rearward (in that configuration). If a 2.5" elbow can clear it then I'd be okay.
Could you do me a favor and take a pic from directly above the front of the engine with the TB mounted and the plenum holes lined up as close as you can get them? (Still backwards of course)

I plan on moving the alternator to the stock Fiero location which is basically on the opposite corner of the accessory drive, there isn't enough clearance where it is without notching the decklid which I don't want to do.
