  • Iron Head Exhaust Valve Seals

Hey guys I am still working on my 3.2L build for my Trooper. The Block and rotating assembly is at the machine shop and will be done Monday. I have the heads and have just finished a gasket match and port blend. I have a full gasket kit but obviously it did not come with exhaust valve stem seals since the Iron heads never used them. But I think it would be a wise choice to hunt some down and so does the machinist I am using. Does anyone know of seals that fit?

Agreed. When you get the stem seal kit, they come with the press on Viton kind. Just buy 2 sets and use intakes on all of them. The only thing I ever noticed on stes that have intake and exh in them were the color of the clips.

1990 Mustang 5.0 seals are so close, but the tops of the guides on top of our iron heads is just a few thousands smaller, and don't know if they could be trusted unless you were using the stock spring dampener/seats.

It is not advised to use intake valve seals because they don't take the heat. Its a different material.

However SBC and 4.3L valve stem seals are a direct fit. They use both intake and exhaust seals and they are each a different material and colour.

Are the SBC seals different colors? The 2.2l seals we use in the GenIII heads are all the same color Viton with different color rings/springs (yellow-ish and plain steel).

I'll let you know. I told the machine shop what ones should fit and they installed them from their shelves so I have not seen them yet. I will let you know when I get them.

I did look at some FelPro seals and it looks as though Viton seals can be used on either intake or exhaust. But the traditional rubber ones cannot.
