  • Spun bearing

I am rebuilding my 3.1L because of a spun rod bearing. After disassembly I noticed that the big ends of the rod are dicolored (blue) from the exessive heat.

My question is what do you guys think about having them reconditioned and reuse them.

Also if anyone had had to replace rods, where did you get them. I know of Jbody and Crower.

    Thanks

      Replace them.

Unless you know a metalurgy place that will heat treat them all. LOL I dont think you will find that kind of service though.

You can get them normalized. Then heat treated. But you can replace them a lot cheaper. Because, Normalizing will alter the dimensions as does your over heating in the first place. Would need line bored. Go to a Boneyard and find a cheap set from a junk motor. Where I live you can get a full set of rods for about 50 bucks if you take them out yourself.
