  • Storage oil

What kind of oil is best for an engine, assembled, in storage in a damp climate? I have a 2.8 spare in my shed fully assembled and I want to keep the rings from rusting to the cylinders. I don't know when I'll be using it. What kind of oil would be best to squirt down the plug holes?

I pulled my old 3400 out last year, never fogged it nothing... and I didn't have any rust issues, I just loosened all the rockers so none of the valves were open, left plugs in it. I just recently tore it apart and no rust anywhere but I had to pull and clean the pan due to condensation getting into it.

BUT I would recommend if its running marvels mystery oil to fog it, or just spray in some WD40 and keep the plugs in it and back the rockers off so the valves are closed and you should be good...

I also had mine wrapped up in shrink wrap.

when i'm storing blocks i coat the cyl walls with Rem-oil.. just spray gun oil, it makes a nice coating that prevents rust.

if you have the heads on, just spray some WD-40 or something in the plug holes and down the intake ports so the intake valves don't rust to the seats. Then loosen the rockers and wrap it in a big trash bag.
