3900 cam removal

can the 3900 cam be removed just by taking off the cam actuator, or does the front cover have to come off? what gaskets would i be looking at getting if i have to take the front cover off, besides that cover gasket?

The cover has to come off, the process is basically the same as with a non VVT camshaft.

dang i was hoping it would be easier, like take the cover off, take the cam out, repeat in reverse...oh well. so what all gaskets are needed, the front cover(horseshoe) and then...the coolant crossover gaskets and thats it? or is there a gasket on the cam phaser or another one im missing
