  • Loosing power.....

Hey all, wasn't sure of where to post this but I need some help quick. I have an 89 Jimmy 2wd with the 2.8. The only real mod to the engine is the 4.3 throttle body with the 2.8 injectors. Here is the problem. When I first bought the truck a few months ago, I could do some serious burnouts by popping the clutch. I could also maintain speeds of 80 and 85 mph in 5th. Now, Only little chirps and I gotta keep it in 4th to stay above 70. Some one please help. I am lost.....

Uh oh. Checks for intake or exhaust restrictions. Check the fuel pressure

I checked the fuel pressure, exhaust and intake. All seem to be okay. Any other ideas? I am just about ready to run this thing down the autobahn as fast as it will go and then shove it into 1st just to see what will happen. I am so tired of pouring money into this tired engine. Everytime I fix one thing, something else goes wrong... BTW, thanks betterthanyou...

Ok look for vacuum leaks. Be sure the EGR valve is not stuck open a little. See if hte injectors have a nice even spray pattern. Look at the spark plugs for odd colours and be sure all look the same. Check the gap on them

i dunno what you have for gearing but, with my setup if I was to push it into first at 93MPH the tranny would be trying to turn the engine at 16000 RPMs. Even if you want to blow it, please do not do this as it could be a very extreme situation. The engine is going to rip apart.

Many things could be causing your issue. Something as simple as an O2 sensor can cause issues like this.
