  • Reusing Head Bolts

Has anyone reused their old head bolts? Am I taking too big of a chance by doing this rather than getting a new set? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

                LOL, double standards?

Actually I have re-used them on grandma rebuilds, not a good idea for performance though, cheap insurance while it's dissasembled.

lol, I was just ribbing you.

Like I said, I have done it on stock re-builds and never had a problem. Most shops do, but I wouldn't trust it in a high HP app.

I've lost count of how many engines I've rebuilt and I've always reused the old head bolts and never blown a gasket not even on the turbo motors which most of them were. Manufacturer recommendations are often times made with manufacturers warranty in mind and the occassional mechanic like one of my uncles who has had a tendency to torque cylinder head bolts with an impact wrench.
