Engine Casting Number Location

Hey,
New to the site here. I have purchased an '88 GT project with a 2000 mile rebuilt engine in it. I have located and run the head , intake , and waterpump numbers and they ALL came back to a 1990 McLaren TGP motor. However, I seem to be having trouble locating the casting number for the block itself. I've asked on several other forums and no one seemed to know. I've scoured the Net and no luck. Can someone help me out here please? I just want to verify this IS a McLaren 3.1L as I would like to bolt the turbo/intercooler setup onto it possibly. Thanks.

I can do that, but I really need to find out the block casting number as that will tell me what I want to know. Here's the other numbers:
Head:10048696
LIM:10110432
WP:10182311

Well, damn. I looked up that head number again,appears I mis-read it the first time. Looks to be a Vin T (n/a head) according to this page:

However the LIM,according to the page below IS a TGP/TSTE LIM.

And I can't remember where I located the WP number.

by water pump do you mean the timing cover?

the lower intake and water pump cover are identical between the vin T and turbo 3.1. The heads are also the same or similar to the point that it dosen't matter. the turbo 3.1 is basically a N/A 3.1 with different writing on the UIM and a turbo. It's nothing special.

Lots of people have boosted regular 3.1's with great results.

Ok, thx for the info Dave. I knew it really didn't matter as to turbo charging it, but I was just curious if my motor was a real , honest to god TGP motor. So the McLaren TGP didn't have higher compression or anything? Thx again.

it was supposedly lower than the N/A version.. 8.8:1 VS 8.9:1..


did it come with the cool plenum?


i found that casting number 10048649 is the latest head for all Gen2 2.8, 3.1 and turbo 3.1 engines. The ones i have in the garage are 10048651, original 1989 2.8 heads

Naw, just a regular plenum. Engine is a rebuilt 3.1L with a 2.8L UIM as the previous owner wanted to "fool" people a bit into thinking it was weaker than it was. Here's a pic of the engine. Thx again.

BTW I checked out that link you provided for that boosted 3.1. Looks pretty cool and sounds almost as easy as I figured it would be. Thx for all your help Dave, I appreciate it.
