No... what I was saying is that once you get your motor "tuned" where you want it or its maximun advance for the engine, or what the engine is capable of, and your in that "borderline" or on the edge of detonation, to richen the mixture a little to be safe.

Yes, too much timing and fuel is never good!!

And the more efficent the engine is the less timing you will need.

Still you are always trying to keep homeostasis or 14.7/ 1 - A/f ratio at least, while 15/1 A/F won't hurt you, and is more safe, yet comes at a loss of power to not have detonation issues... thats all.

    I love you guys ....

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I've got the carb. dialed in and the timing is coming together. Right now I'm at 10* initial and she runs really well. But I've noticed that the plugs are sooting up and smelling like gas. I've been cleaning them each time I change something so I have a "clean slate".

I don't think I'm running too rich (no black smoke out the tail pipe, anyway). So it's probably in the timing. Maybe a novice question but, if I advance some more, will I get more of a burn?

Edit: Oh, and what about plug gap? Right now I'm at stock whick is .045 with the stock heat range plug.

      Thanks.

Yes more timing can/ will help you out to a point, too much is never good.

Try the initial at timing @ 20 degrees and see what your WOT timing is...

You don't want to over 39/ 40 TOPS!!!!!

Mess with it till you think it runs the best.

If you are running the stock coil, you should be good at that gap...

        Good luck...
